Kaiser disappointed Fifa published results

Fifa executive Franz Beckenbauer is "disappointed" with football's ruling body for publishing the 2018 and 2022 World Cup election results, he told Tuesday's edition of the Bild daily.

Beckenbauer told Bild that he and the other voting executives were told the ballot results would be kept under wraps but they were then made public after all, exposing the losing bidders such as England (two votes for 2018) and Australia (one for 2022).

"I am disappointed with the way Fifa handled the election. Seven losing countries were exposed, especially England and Australia," said Beckenbauer.

"We were told that neither we nor the public would ever be told the vote count. We were only told after each round of voting which country was eliminated. And then I hear on the radio a few hours later who got how many votes.

"My faith in Fifa is limited," said the German icon Beckenbauer, who won the World Cup and a player and a coach and organized the 2006 home edition as well.

Russia were elected hosts of the 2018 World Cup and Qatar of the 2022 edition on December 2.

Beckenbauer, 65, is serving his final months on the Fifa executive as he is not seeking another term next year on the powerful committee for personal reasons.

However, the results of past World Cup host election have also been made public. The International Olympic Committee also announces results of its votes on host cities.

The final countdown of the 2018/2022 bidding process was marred by corruption allegations through British news reports over which two executive board members were suspended.

The election of Qatar led to widespread criticism and Beckenbauer was among those to suggest a winter World Cup there to avoid the hot temperatures at the traditional June/July tournament slot.
