Reports: Florida Marlins, Ricky Nolasco agree to extension

Right-hander Ricky Nolasco and the Florida Marlins have agreed to a three-year, $26.5 million contract extension, according to multiple reports.

The agreement is expected to be officially announced later this week after he passes a physical.

Nolasco would be the second young pitcher in the Marlins' rotation to agree to a long-term extension. Ace Josh Johnson signed a four-year, $39 million extension last offseason.

Florida's rotation next season will also include Anibal Sanchez, Chris Volstad and newcomer Javier Vazquez, who this month signed a $7 million, one-year deal.

The 28-year-old Nolasco was 14-9 with a 4.51 ERA for the Marlins last season. He pitched just 157 2/3 innings in 2010 as he missed the season's final month with a knee injury.

Nolasco has won 54 games with the Marlins, second in franchise history to Dontrelle Willis, who won 68 games while with Florida.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
